Brief Review
The black sheep of the family gets trapped in time loop forcing her to relive her sister’s wedding everyday. Palm Springs really disappointed me. I expected a silly movie with all the shenanigans that would come with reliving a wedding. Unfortunately that is not what this is. Palm Springs doesn’t know if it wants to be a comedy or if it wants to have a serious message. It never really figures out what it is trying to and in turn, doesn’t do either of them well. The movie is portrayed as a comedy, but it just isn’t that funny. There are a few funny scenes and gags, but for the most part this movie went long stretches between laughs. It was basically as boring as it can be, while still being watchable. So I guess that’s something? Similarly, the emotional side of the story doesn’t really work either. The movie tries to get you to think deeply about life and its meaning. It just doesn’t quite get there either though. At times it gets close to reaching its “moral” story, but it falls short here too. If Palm Springs was truly funny, I actually think there could have been a decent lesson in it. I just cared so little about the characters that it didn’t really hit home for me. Overall, I don’t have a ton positive to say about this one. It wasn’t awful, but I wouldn’t want to watch it again.
