Brief Review
Months after a horrible blind date with a girl named Missy, a businessman tries to take his new dream girl, also named Missy, on a corporate retreat, but unfortunately texts the wrong Missy. Look, there are basically no good David Spade movies (Tommy Boy and The Emperor’s New Groove are exceptions), but this is definitely one of his best. I don’t even know who Lauren Lapkus is, but she plays an insane, high-energy, oddball very well. The Wrong Missy is much more enjoyable than my rating would suggest. By no means is this a “good” movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. This is just like your typical Adam Sandler movie. You will never hear about this movie from critics or see advertisements for it, but a friend who watched some random movie late one night might tell you about this. Well consider me that friend who is recommending this random movie. I found myself laughing a lot pretty early on and while I think the momentum fades throughout, it is a pretty funny, albeit stupid, movie. The concept of the movie is funny. The plot is nothing special, but that doesn’t matter because that’s not why you watch this. The Wrong Missy definitely won’t be winning any awards, but it is enjoyable nonetheless. One warning, the humor borders on being cringey a lot of the time because Missy is so awkward. For some odd reason though, I thought it kind of worked and she is oddly endearing. This is a short, 90 minute, slap stick type comedy. Go in with low expectations and this is an oddly enjoyable movie. The Wrong Missy is probably one of my favorite bad movies.
