Brief Review
Based on the classic book, The Call of the Wild, is about a giant, big-hearted dog named Buck who gets kidnapped to become a sled dog in the Yukon. This movie was honestly kind of what I expected. It’s a movie that everyone in the family can watch and feel good about, but no one will love it. I think this is really perfect for younger kids and their grandparents. One interesting choice is that they animated Buck, which you will probably either hate or won’t care about. I thought the animated dog was a little cheesy, and not very realistic at times, but also cute at the same time. I was kind of indifferent to them choosing to animate him. Despite being the lead actor, Harrison Ford really just played second fiddle to Buck, and was not really a major part of the movie. Beyond that, there isn’t a ton to The Call of the Wild. If you have read the book, you will know the plot and there wasn’t anything substantial added to it. Overall it is a cheesy but wholesome movie that the entire family can watch. Not good, but not bad either.
