Brief Review
Almost two decades after the previous movie, Bad Boys for Life sees aging police partners Will Smith and Martin Lawrence team up again to take down a vicious drug cartel. I watched both Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 before this and I was honestly underwhelmed by both. They weren’t necessarily bad, but they weren’t anything special either. Just your typical action-packed buddy cop movies. Neither lived up to my expectations. Luckily this one is the Bad Boys movie that I was hoping for the whole time! This one has a much better mix of action and comedy and was just an all around a better movie. I actually didn’t think the first two were all that funny beyond a few scenes here and there. This one has tons of funny moments. It is actually a genuinely funny movie. Bad Boys for Life actually mixes it up between action and comedy, providing plenty of comedy in addition to the action. In contrast the first two felt like constant gun fights and explosions. Finally, the plot is significantly better in this one (the first two have very generic plots that I barely remember). The plot wasn’t amazing, but I was at least engaged in what what was happening. There was at least some substance to it. Overall I think Bad Boys for Life used both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence much better than the previous two movies did. This is what you would expect when you see a movie with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. It was a good one.
