Brief Review
A veterinarian who can talk to animals goes on a journey to save the Queen of England. For some reason I had high expectations for Dolittle. I thought it could be a big surprise, something along the lines of a new Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Well…I was surprised. It was surprisingly bad. Not worst movie of all time bad like some other reviews say. But Dolittle found this perfect sweet spot of being as bad as it could be, while not 100% dreading every second of it. It just felt so uninspired. It was like they realized while filming that it was going horribly and they just gave up on it. As much as I like Robert Downey Jr. he was really bad in this. He was basically lifeless and that carried throughout the entire movie. The story is so bland, with no real tricks or twists and nothing memorable. Come to think of it, I don’t even know how most of the plot unfolded or what drove what, it just kind of happens. Once in awhile there is something that might make you laugh and it is probably semi-funny for younger kids, but the rest is just not worth it. It isn’t worth sitting through most of a boring movie to chuckle twice. I wouldn’t recommend watching it. It’s probably an early entry into the list of worst 2020 movies.
