Brief Review
A New York Police Detective leads a citywide manhunt for two cop killers while also uncovering a massive conspiracy. So 21 Bridges is a fairly generic cop mystery/thriller. It tries hard to have an interesting story, but you can probably already guess the “twist” of the movie before you even go into it. Once it starts, you will probably figure out the twist right away. You can barely even call it a twist because of how much they foreshadow it. The movie does everything but outright tell you the whole twist within the first few minutes. It was a lot of heavy hinting and not a lot of trickery. Now with that being said, if you just take this for just an action movie it is fairly enjoyable. There are actually a lot of good action and shootouts that really save this movie from being overly generic. It is also rated R, so they definitely don’t shy away from the violence. However they do it in a way that adds to the movie. It isn’t just violence for the sake of violence. Watch it as a normal action popcorn flick and not as a complex mystery then 21 Bridges is enjoyable but not overly memorable. It isn’t the best movie by any means and I wouldn’t go out of my way to rewatch it, but if it was on TV I would flip to it.
