Brief Review
Noelle, the daughter of Santa, journeys from the North Pole to bring her brother back for his Santa training. So a person who grew up at the North Pole leaves to go explore the real world. Sound kind of familiar to another Christmas movie? Yeah, Noelle is basically a newer version of Elf, except not as funny and with Anna Kendrick instead of Will Ferrell. Elf is a classic so I can’t really be upset this isn’t as good, but it is the natural comparison. By itself Noelle is a family friendly movie that the whole family can watch during the holidays. Unfortunately it is just another semi-cheesy Christmas movie. It is cute and lighthearted and I don’t think anyone would dislike it, but on the other hand it is unlikely to be anyone’s favorite Christmas movie either. Something about it just doesn’t totally work. It is kind of funny, kind of charming and kind of emotional. But it doesn’t do any of them well enough to be memorable. If you could only watch one, I would choose Elf.
