Brief Review
A sequel to the cultural phenomenon, Anna and Elsa journey into a mysterious forest to discover the truth about their kingdom. The original Frozen was a defining movie for a generation of kids. There was basically no chance Frozen II would be better than the original. So it’s no surprise that this isn’t quite as good as the original. However, this is still a good movie! In fact, I thought it was a really good movie! There are really only two noticeable differences. First, this one feels a little more mature as it recognizes the kids who grew up with Frozen are older now. It is still definitely a movie for kids, however the themes in this one are more mature. The bigger difference is the soundtrack. By and large the soundtrack to the original was significantly better. There is no “Let It Go” instant classic here (at least it won’t get stuck in your head for a year though). Really only a couple of the songs were memorable. Now basically everything else was good. Like all Disney movies, the animation was beautiful. I enjoyed the more mature themes and thought the plot worked. I was a little worried this would feel like a total cash grab sequel, but it felt like it had a purpose. And then similar to the first one, this was pretty funny (mainly Olaf). So no, this isn’t as good as the original but that’s not really fair because how could it be? This is a really good movie. Frozen II did a good job following up one of the all-time greats.
