Brief Review
A sequel to the refreshingly original Zombieland. The makeshift family continues to survive after the zombie apocalypse while also trying to return to some semblance of normalcy. I was a huge fan of the first movie. I thought it was very original and its over-the-top style was very funny. This one is done in a similar over-the-top parody style, however because it is a sequel it doesn’t feel as fresh and new. This one also struggles with really finding its reason to exist. Not that it feels like a money-grab, but it definitely feels like it is trying much harder to capture the original appeal of the first one. This one feels a little unnecessary, Zombieland was fine on its own. There are definitely funny scenes and the outrageousness works, just not as well as the first one. Where I was laughing in nearly every scene during the first movie, in this one it might have been roughly half of them. I also definitely felt like some scenes were just trying too hard and didn’t land as well as they did in the first one. Overall this movie is enjoyable for a ridiculous and thoughtless comedy, however it isn’t as good as the first one.
