Brief Review
A Quentin Tarantino movie set in 1960’s Hollywood that follows an over-the-hill actor and his stuntman while also being loosely based on the Sharon Tate murder. I totally did not like this movie. I thought that a movie with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie couldn’t be bad, but boy was I wrong. The entire time, I felt like I was missing necessary backstory, or that I wasn’t “in” on some inside joke. To me the movie felt like a bunch of individual scenes that were loosely related and stitched together to form a semi-coherent story. I just didn’t get it. There were individual scenes that I enjoyed but as a coherent movie I didn’t like it at all. On the positive side, I thought Brad Pitt’s character was very good and I thought Leo’s character at times was also enjoyable. On the other hand, Margot Robbie was barely in the movie. She probably only had 10 lines in the entire movie and was only on screen for a few scenes. Billing her as one of the main actors was deceptive at best. Another thing that bothered me about this movie was it’s very inconsistent tone. It wafers between serious, silly, dark and light seemingly randomly by scene. Not a ton that I can say good about this as a full movie, but there were some scenes I enjoyed (the final scene is over-the-top violent but fun to watch). Maybe if you love Quentin Tarantino movies you will enjoy this, otherwise I would say to skip it.
