Brief Review
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter tries to return to normalcy by going on a school trip to Europe. It was always going to be tough being the first movie after Endgame and while this didn’t wow me, it is your typical solid Marvel movie. I really liked how this feels much less consequential and Spider-man isn’t trying to save the entire universe. This movie is more about Peter’s struggle of just being a teenager who is not fully ready for the responsibility of being a superhero. Tom Holland does a great job and really makes for a very believable Spider-man. I thought the plot was good and while the twist isn’t totally unexpected, they do it in a unique way. The villain also makes for some really interesting and cool action scenes given his abilities. In typical Marvel fashion, the comedy is pretty strong throughout and Peter’s awkwardness makes for funny scenes. This also gets bonus points because you don’t need to have seen any of the other Marvel movies to enjoy this movie and feel totally aware of what is happening. This was a solid follow-up to Endgame and a good sequel to the original (but not quite as good), but it feels a little safe and falls short of being a great superhero movie.
