Brief Review
A woman and two children try to survive after a mysterious “force” drives people to commit suicide when they see it. So let me start by saying this is a good movie that I enjoyed. I don’t think it deserved the incredible amount of hype it got, but it is good. Also it’s a thriller, not a horror movie. It is actually fairly similar to A Quiet Place, except in Bird Box they live blindfolded and not mute. The two issues that kept me from saying it is excellent are, the plot is actually very simple (it doesn’t feel complete) and they never explain the mysterious force. As for the plot, the movie follows a woman and two children as they row down a river blindfolded, but is mainly told through a series of flashbacks explaining how they got there. The flashbacks are really what make the movie interesting because the present day plot is literally rowing down a river. It’s a tense and suspenseful movie, and Sandra Bullock was very good, but I can’t help but think it could have been an amazing movie. I definitely enjoyed it, but the hype of it surpassed the actual movie, and in the end it kind of gets an “almost” just like A Quiet Place. I would recommend watching it, but I am slightly disappointed that it wasn’t the amazing movie it could have been.
