Brief Review
Based on the popular Spider-man nemesis/anti-hero, Venom follows a down and out reporter who accidentally becomes the host of an alien symbiote that gives him super powers. I had pretty high expectations for this movie and it missed by a wide margin. Unfortunately, ridiculous was the first word that came to mind after watching it. I think that’s really the best way to describe it because there was just a lot wrong with this movie. It is stuck between trying to be dark movie while also appealing to the masses with a pg-13 rating. The result is a mess. It is not very dark and tries to be funny, but really misses the mark. Most of the humor was so forced that it seemed like people were making fun of the movie when they laughed. The only saving grace is that Tom Hardy actually played the role pretty well. I almost hope they make a sequel and allow him to play the character again, I just hope it is actually a good movie. This movie is a skip unless you’re a die-hard comic book fan or Tom Hardy fan, average movie fans will likely think this is awful.
