Brief Review
A desperate father uses the internet and social media in an attempt to try to solve the case of his missing teenage daughter. Simply put, I think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I’ll admit that after watching the trailer, I really did not have much interest in it. However, this movie is definitely worth watching. The most unique part of the movie is how it is filmed. The movie takes place almost entirely on a computer. So it is essentially like you are FaceTiming with the movie (like this episode of Modern Family). It adds a very modern and unique dynamic to the movie. Beyond that, the story is significantly better than you would think. Searching does an amazing job of creating a sense of desperation and keeping you totally engaged the whole time. You feel like you are actively engaged in a real and complex investigation. The movie also explores the good and bad of technology, modern teenagers and the internet. It is a very good representation of both the power for good and evil of technology. The movie is dark simply because of the subject matter, but it is not gory or inappropriate for anyone. The only hesitation I have in recommending this movie to everyone is for parents who might find the content too real and bothersome. If that’s not you or you don’t think you will be disturbed by it, then this movie is a must watch.
