Brief Review
A spin-off of the very popular Ocean’s series, Ocean’s 8 follows a group of female con artists as they try to pull off a massive heist. With such a star-studded cast, I honestly expected more from it. The movie wasn’t terrible, but it was extremely slow. Three quarters of the movie was build-up and the last quarter was evenly split between the actual heist and the aftermath. The build-up really made the movie drag. You watch them recruit each member the same way, so it feels like nothing happens for half of the movie. The heist was fun to watch, but fails to really create any suspense. For a heist movie, everything goes too smoothly. The saving grace of the movie was the epilogue. This is when the movie is most interesting and explains how clever the heist really was. This part would have made for a good 30 minute TV show. Unfortunately, you have a lot to watch before you get there. It is kind of like eating a pound of broccoli just to get one cookie. I’ll let you decide if it is worth it or not. Overall, it was just interesting enough to keep me watching, but not one bit more. Don’t expect the original trilogy out of this one.
