Brief Review
An exhausted mother of 3 hires a night nanny to help watch her newborn, and over time the two develop a special bond. This movie is pretty similar to Lady Bird (hence the similar 3 words), in that it doesn’t feel like you’re really watching a movie, it just feels like someone’s life. Tully is a little more dramatized/Hollywood than Lady Bird though, but for the most part it is a realistic movie. I thought this was close to being a really good movie, but it doesn’t quite reach it. The first 30 minutes or so were actually pretty boring and I thought I was in for a rough movie, but it does pick up. It never becomes an amazing drama, but it at least makes you laugh and feel for the characters. The story, while simple, is very relatable (especially for mothers) and that’s what makes the movie endearing. I will say, I didn’t love the ending, but it does tie the movie together and kind of makes sense. I’m a little mixed on this one as I did enjoy the middle 60% of it, but the beginning was a slog and I wasn’t crazy about the ending ether. I would say it’s a fine watch if you’re looking for a realistic movie, but I liked Lady Bird better.
