Brief Review

Rampage is based on a popular video game series in which giant animals run around destroying cities. Unfortunately, there is not much more to the movie than that. Dwayne Johnson plays a primatologist whose gorilla friend, George, along with two other wild animals are inflicted with a mutation that causes them to grow to enormous size. The movie then simply follows these three monsters as they go on a destructive rampage throughout Chicago. I was not expecting much more from this movie other than a chaotic action film, yet it still did not live up to my expectations. The action does not truly pick up until the last third of the movie and by then, you are most likely already bored. There is also not much humor in the movie and it is often overly cheesy when there is. If you’re looking for a good movie with The Rock in it, Jumanji is much better. Skip this one, the video game is more fun than the movie.
