Brief Review
First and foremost, this movie is not really a standalone movie, so the rating assumes that you have seen most (or all) of the other Marvel movies. It is kind of like watching the final season to a tv show. If you have not seen the other movies, it would still be a good movie, but it would not be nearly as impactful.
Infinity War is the beginning of the end of the MCU, and it very much feels like that. This movie is noticeably darker than many of the other Marvel films. I was originally nervous that it would feel too cluttered due to the sheer amount of characters, but they did a great job of balancing it. Some characters are featured more than others, but generally the characters that have been around the longest are focused on the most. What was most surprising is how much the focus was on Thanos. He was practically one of the protagonists, even though he is the villain. I also think he is the best villain that any of the Marvel movies have featured to date. He is exceptionally powerful, but not one-dimensional. He has depth to him that many super villains simply don’t have. Unfortunately, this movie is very hard to review without spoiling it, but it left me with a feeling of “Whoa”. Overall, this is one of the top Marvel movies, if not the best. It is kind of incomplete because it is the first part of a two-part finale, but it definitely makes you excited for the sequel. It really is a very solid movie.
