Brief Review
Red Sparrow is about a Russian ballerina that is forced into a secret intelligence agency called the Red Sparrows. These agents specialize in the use of their minds and bodies to manipulate their targets into revealing highly classified information. The entire movie operated almost as if it was its own classified case, with everything operating in the gray area. It stayed interesting because you could never be certain what the characters motives were, but at many points there was too little information to even guess what was going to happen next. A large part of the film was the brutal nature of it. They are not afraid to use any method necessary in order to secure the information that they need. This leads to some very violent (almost uncomfortably so) scenes. There were points where I was almost squirming in my chair. While this may sound extreme, it doesn’t really seem out-of-place in the movie. It is not brutal just for the sake of being brutal and they do a good job of not making it downright disturbing (it is not a torture fest). Overall, this is a decent spy thriller that is worth watching, but you have to be prepared for a fairly intense movie.
