Brief Review
While The Shape Of Water is definitely more of an artsy indie film, don’t let that make you believe it isn’t a good movie. Set in the 1960’s Cold War era, the movie follows a mute woman who works at a US government agency and falls in love with a humanoid “Sea-Monster.” Not a true romance movie, not a true political thriller, and not a true fantasy movie, The Shape Of Water is a genre mixing movie in which each genre adds to the overall film. While the plot can be loose at times and there are definitely clichés in the movie, the overall film is an enjoyable one. For true indie movie fans, there are definitely creative elements to dissect. For casual movie goers, the film is enjoyable and not artsy enough to detract from the movie.
