Coco follows a 12-year-old Mexican boy named Miguel who longs to be a musician in a family that has banned music. Set during Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Miguel must navigate his family, both dead and alive, in order to gain support for his musical ambitions. Coco is heavily rooted in both family and Mexican culture and does a fantastic job of portraying the importance of both to the Mexican culture. The story is heartwarming, has unexpected twists and is fun throughout. It is an enjoyable movie for both children and adults. While there is music involved, Coco is not a musical. The best part of Coco is definitely the animation. The movie is just a visual masterpiece. It is popping with color and is just a very pretty movie. Overall Coco isn’t my favorite Pixar movie, but it is another strong performance from Pixar. Definitely a movie worth seeing and one that families will enjoy.
