Brief Review
Brilliantly awful. How could a movie about the making of one of the worst movies of all time be anything else? The Disaster Artist is an odd, but entertaining mockumentary about the making of the movie “The Room”. Brothers James and Dave Franco both provide strong performances and perfectly play off of each other throughout. The plot of the movie is adequate but does feel fairly Meta at times as they are actively shooting what will become “The Room.” The movie isn’t entirely a pointless mockumentary, there are a few messages, about friendship and Hollywood. Where this movie really shines is in the hilariously awful movie that it is about. Having never seen “The Room”, The Disaster Artist is still an entertaining movie and even is intriguing enough for most to want to watch the Room. For those that have seen and enjoyed “The Room”, The Disaster Artist is probably an even better film. Overall, The Disaster Artist is a funny and entertaining movie, albeit an odd one, for both those that have and haven’t seen “The Room.”
