Brief Review
While Daddy’s Home 2 was never going to be loved by critics, it is funnier than the reviews would suggest. It is a silly comedy about a family that celebrates a “together Christmas” with their biological dad and his new family. Along for the ride are both the biological grandpa and the step-grandpa. Daddy’s Home 2 relies on slapstick comedy and (mainly) family friendly jokes to provide laughs. While it doesn’t have many standout moments, it is entertaining throughout. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg work well in their roles while newcomers John Lithgow and Mel Gibson each add their own comedic elements. The plot is thin, yet there are a few family messages and plot lines that do shine through. While Daddy’s Home 2 probably won’t be the funniest comedy that you see, it is an entertaining movie that is good for some laughs.
