A spin-off of the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts follows a wizard as he attempts to collect magical creatures that he accidentally lets loose in New York City. The good news about this movie is that you don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to watch this movie. The bad news is that it is a pretty underwhelming movie and you won’t really understand much of it. If you are a Harry Potter fan, the news isn’t much better. Fantastic Beasts probably isn’t “Harry Potter” enough for you. There’s this vague sense that you are in the world of Harry Potter, but it feels very distant and off. As a Harry Potter fan, I found this movie to be very underwhelming. As a non-Harry Potter fan, I think this movie would be both confusing and average at best. If you’re not a fan of the Harry Potter series, I would likely skip this one. It pains me to say this, but if you are a fan of Harry Potter, don’t go in expecting a “Harry Potter” movie.
