Brief Review
Maleficent is a creative take on the classic Sleeping Beauty told from the eyes of the usual villain, Maleficent. The new perspective definitely provides an interesting twist and helps to keep the movie interesting because at times it can feel slow. While this movie is still a kid’s movie, it is not done in the typical happy fairy tale style. Maleficent takes a notably darker tone (it is told through the eyes of a villain) and ends up feeling slightly too old for its core audience, yet still too young for adults. Angelina Jolie does a good job portraying a conflicted villain who beneath her rage truly shows remorse. The rest of the cast was disappointing, delivering forgettable performances. Overall this is a fine film from Disney, but it likely won’t be one that you remember forever like many of their others.
